The Management of Riverton Childcare will ensure that educators are trained in Health and Safety issues.
GUIDELINES
Hazard Identification
Weekly visual safety check (carried out by designated person)
Educators will report to Supervisor and record in message book - “HAZARD”
any wear and tear
any broken equipment and remove if possible
any possible hazards.
Monthly a thorough check will be carried out using an inspection sheet.
If necessary an area of the Centre will be analysed for risk identification with a view to eliminating, isolating or minimising any hazards identified.
Staff Training
On induction Educators will be given instructions on potential hazards in the workplace and preventative measures to deal with them.
Individual actions are reviewed with Supervisor and Educators concerned with a view to improving practices.
Health and Safety workshops will be offered.
Accident Register
The Centre will have an accident register, which will be reviewed at staff meetings to ascertain the patterns, if any, of potential risk to any person on the premises.
Staff will fill in details in the accident register, sign and put message (A) on the daily enrolment form. Parents are then offered the register to sign.
Significant accidents will be recorded in the Centre 'Accident Register' and an OSH 'Accident Register Form' following the procedures on the form.
Hazard Management
Educators are to take personal responsibility for their own care and looking out for potential hazards, and where practical, taking possible and immediate steps for eliminating isolating or minimising that hazard.
Supervisor will take whatever steps are necessary to isolate, reduce or eliminate any hazard observed by them or notified to them.
Supervisor will notify Management in writing of any hazards, which the Supervisor cannot within their resources or authority, isolate, remove or reduce.
Procedures For Handling Emergencies And Drills
A person with a current 'First Aid' training certificate will be at Riverton Centre at all times.
Agreed evacuation plan to be followed.
Fire and Earthquake drills carried out at least once a term.
Staff are required to stay with children until parents come to pick them up or other arrangements are made for their care.
Policies: Statement regarding the curriculum; Acceptable use of computer/software; Complaints and grievances; consultation; equipment; monitoring sleeping children; nappy changing procedure; open door; pest and vermin; accidents and illnesses; food and drink; health and safety; laundry; prosocial behaviour; preventing child abuse; shady childcare; smokefree.
