The Management and Staff of Riverton Childcare recognise the importance of increasing children's and community awareness of melanoma and practical ways of skin protection. They are committed to providing a safe childcare environment, which provides shade for children and staff. Children and staff are encouraged to wear protective clothing, hats and sunscreen while outside.

Guidelines

1 BEHAVIOUR : Wear hats outside; Apply 15+ broad spectrum sunscreen before going outside; Provide sunscreen in the Centre; Encourage children to play or sit under shade.

2 ENVIRONMENT : Provide shade over sandpit and water play areas; plan for shade in future development of the grounds.

3 CURRICULUM : Include in planning - Taking care of yourself, Wearing clothing, sunscreen and hats to protect.

4 MONITORING AND EVALUATION : Ongoing evaluation is necessary to update the curriculum, assess shade provisions, review sun protection behaviour of children and staff.
